What we haul, and what we cannot

Most dumpster calls go wrong for one of two reasons: the wrong size turns up, or something goes in the container that Illinois law does not allow. Both are avoidable in a two minute phone call.

Goes in the container

  • Household junk, furniture, carpet, general clear-outs
  • Construction and remodel debris — drywall, lumber, cabinetry, fixtures
  • Roofing shingles and tear-off (weight matters — see roof tear-off)
  • Concrete, brick and dirt, in a dedicated heavy container
  • Scrap metal, siding, decking, fencing

Illinois law says no

  • Tyres — banned from Illinois landfills since 1994
  • Landscape waste — grass, leaves and brush, banned since 1990
  • Televisions, monitors, computers and other e-waste
  • Fridges, freezers and A/C units with refrigerant still in them
  • Liquid paint, motor oil, propane tanks, batteries, asbestos

Sizes

Which container fits your job

Dimensions are approximate and vary slightly by container. The number that actually decides the size is what you are throwing away, not how much of it.

10cubic yards
approx. 12′ × 8′ × 3.5′

Single-room clear-out, small bathroom rip-out, or any job that is mostly concrete, brick or dirt.

15cubic yards
approx. 16′ × 8′ × 4′

Garage or basement clear-out, a medium remodel, or a small roof tear-off.

20cubic yards
approx. 22′ × 8′ × 4.5′

The one most people end up with. Whole-house clear-out, kitchen remodel, average roof tear-off.

30cubic yards
approx. 22′ × 8′ × 6′

Full gut, large addition, commercial clear-out, or bulky light material like siding and decking.

The mistake almost everyone makes

People size by how big the pile looks. The thing that actually catches you out is weight. Concrete, brick, dirt, plaster and roofing shingles are enormously heavy for their volume — a 10 yard container of concrete can outweigh a 30 yard container of furniture. If your debris is dense, you want a smaller box, not a bigger one. Tell us the material on the phone and we will steer you right.

Permits

Driveway, no. Street, usually yes.

The rule across these suburbs is consistent even though the paperwork is not. If the container sits on your own property — driveway, yard, job site — you do not need a permit.

If it sits on the public right-of-way — the street, an alley, or the parkway strip between sidewalk and kerb — your village almost certainly requires one, and the department that issues it differs from town to town.

We will tell you which side of that line you are on before we load the truck, and which village department to ring if you need the permit.

How it works

Four steps, one phone call

  1. Tell us what you are clearing Not the volume — the material. “Kitchen gut”, “garage full of junk”, “tear-off on a bungalow”, “patio coming up”. That is enough for us to pick the size.
  2. We confirm placement and access Where it goes, whether it clears low wires and branches, and whether the village needs a permit. A roll-off truck needs roughly 60 feet of straight clearance to drop and collect.
  3. Delivery Boards go down first so the container does not mark your driveway. We place it facing the way you want the doors to open — tell us, because turning it afterwards is not a small job.
  4. Call when you are done Collection usually next working day. Do not load above the top rail — an overloaded container legally cannot be transported and has to be levelled before it moves.

Common questions

What people ask when they call

How long can I keep the container?

Standard hire runs about a week, and extensions are usually fine if you tell us before the collection date. If your job has a hard deadline — a closing, an inspection, a village citation — say so when you book and we will work to it.

Will it damage my driveway?

We put boards down before the container is set. Roll-offs are heavy and they do mark unprotected asphalt, particularly in summer heat. If your drive is newly sealed, tell us on the phone — sometimes the right answer is placing it on the street with a permit instead.

How much space does the truck need?

Roughly 60 feet of straight clearance to drop and collect, and about 23 feet of vertical clearance for the arm. Low branches and utility lines are the usual problem, not the width of the drive.

Can I put anything in it overnight?

It is your container while it is on site, and what goes in is your responsibility. If it is on the street, neighbours will occasionally add to it — worth a tarp, because prohibited items that appear in your container are still your problem at the transfer station.

What if I fill it faster than expected?

Call us. A swap-out is routine and usually quicker than you think. Do not solve it by loading above the rail — a container heaped over the top rail cannot legally be moved and has to be levelled by hand before it goes anywhere.

Do you take just one or two heavy items?

If it is a single appliance or a couple of items, a roll-off is the wrong tool and we will say so. Most of these villages run bulk pickup or a scrap service that will handle it with far less hassle.

Two minutes on the phone gets you the right size, the permit answer and a delivery slot.
